What is a case number?

A case number is a number that is given to you by Contributor Care or someone else at Shutterstock. It is not a random number that you make up.

When would I get a case number?

You would get a case number for a variety of reasons, such as you believe that your content was wrongfully rejected and you wrote in to Contributor Care who looked at the images and said, yup, the reviewer messed up, here’s a case number so it (hopefully) won’t happen again. Or perhaps you submitted credentials for a sporting event or needed to provide a vintage property release for an editorial image (you can’t submit a release with an editorial image). Other instances may be a compliance issue or you had opened another Shutterstock account and you want to transfer (resubmit) these images into the new account.

How to add a case number to your submission

  1. If you’ve already uploaded the images to your contributor account, go to Portfolio > Submit Content
  2. Once in the Content Editor, select the image(s) to which you want to attach the case number
  3. Scroll down the page until you come to “More Options (as needed)” and expand the dropdown menu where you will see Notes for reviewer

4. Click the down arrow next to Notes for reviewer to expand the menu and select Case Number from the list of options

5. Add the case number in the “See the Following Case Number” field

The image(s) to which the case number is attached will have the tag “Note” on them.

6. Save your work by clicking on the Save button located in the top righthand side of the Content Editor.

And that’s it!
